It was very 'smart' of the random picked game from AGS this month, with the Australian Open tennis event coming up.  The GOTHEM for January is 'Advantage Tennis'!  a great old tennis game! Have fun!

ARBBS - Amiga Retro BBS / Re: AmiExpress (/X) BBS Running on a Vampire 4SA
« Last post by intangybles on March 01, 2025, 10:02:34 pm »
Full details will follow, including an article on our "project: page.

But the last update in the story is (Taken from the development chat group)...

Hello again everyone! I have the AmiExpress BBS running pretty well now on the V4SA now. The later "core" did help greatly but sadly "RoadShow" (1.13 & 1.15 tested) as "Fantastic" as it is for "most" internet application is just not the go for an AmiExpress BBS on the V4SA. Getting the balance between compatibly, stability and function has taken a bit of time.

Very pleased with the results now. Time at last to "flesh" the BBS out now that its stable! So we are now up and online! and..

I think will be the first "fulltime" Amiga BBS running on a Vampire 4SA?

Thanks' again and looking forward to your visit!

GOTHEM - Game Of THE Month / Re: February 2025 - Cave Runner
« Last post by ARB Forum Admin on March 01, 2025, 09:46:48 pm »
Enjoyed my very short amount of time with this.  Best I got was 75 in 28 seconds.

Played on my Amiga 1200, no cheats or passwords used.

Apologies again NinjaKat! Just could not get to the Game!

General Discussion / 3D Library for PiStorm-equipped Amigas
« Last post by Marcio D. on February 27, 2025, 09:46:23 am »
There's a crowdfunding campaign that's aiming to deliver a 3D library for PiStorm systems equipped with Pi4 or Pi CM4:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/3d-for-pistorm

The campaign organizer is Steffen Haeuser, creator of the AmigaOS ports of Quake II and Heretic II.

The developer is Dennis Boon, who is very experienced with Amiga low-level hardware development.  100% of the net campaign funds will be going to Dennis, as compensation for his time and effort in the project.

The finished library will be made open-source.  This 3D hardware acceleration will bring a higher resolution, faster fps, and more stunning visuals to 3D gaming on PiStorm-equipped Amiga systems.

The campaign has surpassed its original modest funding goal, so the project is going ahead full steam.  There are a little over 50 backers so far, but fortunately the campaign is open for late pledges.  If this project piques your interest, even a contribution of $10 or $20 would be fantastic.  What's most important is to increase the number of backers to something closer to 100.  Doing so will motivate the organizer and developer to push through the challenges described on the campaign page.

If you've got any questions about the campaign, please email Steffen Haeuser directly at:  tirionareonwe@gmail.com

Thanks for reading!

ShadowTeam has posted an update for the upcoming Shinobi-inspired game Shadow Gangs Zero.  The first bit of news is that the graphics development is coming along very nicely.  The second major takeaway is that porting from the lead system Neo Geo to the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive has now begun!

Catch up on the exciting details here:

C64 Forever / Re: Vision BASIC v1.1 - Major Update - Commodore 64 Compiler !
« Last post by Marcio D. on February 05, 2025, 05:26:52 am »
An interesting offer has been posted on the Vision BASIC website.  The publisher is selling a batch of Vision BASIC v1.1 packages at an extreme discount, because the boxes and manuals are slightly damaged.  No floppy disks and no thumb drive are included.  You'll be downloading the software directly from their website.

From what I'm reading, the advantage of this 1.1dm clearance package over their 1.1e "economy" package is that the 1.1e manual is only 300 pages, while the 1.1dm manual is 352 pages long to provide the sprite editor content.

According to the publisher, buyers of this 1.1dm package will also receive a download of v1.2 for free when that update is released in a few months.  Also included is access to their private forum where you can interact with other users and the developer Dennis Osborn himself, if you'd like to receive or give help regarding Vision BASIC programming.

GOTHEM - Game Of THE Month / February 2025 - Cave Runner
« Last post by NinjaKat on February 01, 2025, 06:12:51 pm »
Game of the Month for February 2025: Cave Runner

Picked from a random selection from the fantastic Amiga Game Selector!

Cave Runner is a single player Boulder Dash type of game

The player characters digs through dirt and has to collect all stars before the exit opens up. Naturally there are obstacles and enemies which make this seemingly simple task more challenging. Rocks abound and are subject to gravity so they fall down when the player removes the dirt under them. This can not only be used to open the path, or close it if the player makes a wrong move, but also to kill enemies by crushing them.

The game has sound, a high score table and twenty-six levels each of which has to be solved within a time limit.

Information:
  • Amiga Hardware: OCS
  • Relase Year: 1989

Please refer to the 'Game of the Month Rules and Participation' post for information on how to participate!  Good Luck!

* To qualify: just play, on any real Amiga or equivalent emulator.  The winner will be the player with the best score in the best time.

As per the GOTHEM rules, please confirm the qualification rules in green above, the machine/emulator you used, your score, screenshot/photo with score shown, and confirm you have not used cheats or passwords.  If the game does not keep score, please let us know where you got up to (without spoilers) with a brief review of your time with the game.  Also state any additional qualification rules stated above, such as playing on a certain mode with certain rules, just so we have a better feeling that you are playing fairly!
