Hi all,  I have extended Gothem for another month as I feel we should all give this one a go.  I am going to have a go tonight and post a score.  For a change, I am having a fairly relaxed easter long weekend!  :). I hope you all are as well.

SNES - TURRICAN 1.5
« on: May 09, 2026, 05:50:04 pm »
Hey everyone,

I’m SUPER‑J11BIT, and I’ve been deep into the retro‑gaming world for years, especially when it comes to reverse engineering and homebrew development.

Recently I’ve been working on a pretty unusual project: I took Super Mario World and completely broke it down through reverse engineering, studying its internal systems and structure piece by piece. From that process I built a custom “hand‑crafted” engine — basically a personal sandbox that lets me create entirely new experiences while still staying within the technical limits of the SNES hardware.

Working inside those limitations, instead of bypassing them, has become the most fun part for me. Finding creative solutions where the original engine was never meant to go is a challenge I really enjoy.

After a year of work, I’ve finally completed my first SNES game for 2026:

The Avalon 1 is being overrun by rogue robots and intelligent mutants. You play as Bren McGuire, still without the Turrican armor, fighting your way through collapsing ship sectors using an integrated weapon system and a jetpack.

Mutant bosses that steal armor, massive stationary giants raining destruction, and chaotic corridors lead right up to the exact moment where Turrican II begins.

I’d love to share this project with the community, talk retro‑dev, exchange ideas with other homebrew creators, or just chat with anyone who enjoys digging into how old games really work.

If you’re curious about the technical side or want to dive deeper into the project, I’m here.

Cheers,
