Title: Newbie Need Guidance And Help
Post by: Gamer1971 on December 30, 2020, 02:18:01 pm
Hi All,

I’m new to the Amiga’s scene and have purchased multiple Amiga’s which most work.
I have just purchased a A2000 that just boots to a black screen and would love to get it going.
Looking for assistance to have the A2000 repaired and live in south Brisbane.

Hello and welcome! I will see if I can stir you up some advice!

With those bigbox Amiga's death by Varta (Leaking Battery) would be just about the most common issue!

Perhaps you could supply some pics so other can gauge the condition?

All the best.

Yup, photos of the motherboard will be 100% helpful. The usual place to look is at the front in the middle - where the keyboard plugs in, between the CPU and kickstart chips. The evil battery will cause havoc. Look for corrosion from the battery outwards.

Sometimes they can be repaired or you will have to build a new motherboard.

Otherwise, remove all the cards from the machine so you just have the monitor plugged into the machine and the power supply. You should get a kickstart screen if things are working. Go from there.

We usually have a monthly meetup - so you could bring it along to that.

Hi Guys,

Looks like the battery mentioned has been removed and has some leakage.

I’m very keen to have it repaired and looked at, as purchased a Vampire V2 for it.

I’m in Carindale and would prefer a local repair.
